Damn, that's awful. Why does shit like this have to happen to people who are actually *using* their brains?

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Oh that's rotten news. That's as bad a Douglas Adams dying but without the irony.

Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!

I think I'd be less upset if he had been diagnosed with cancer - at least they can treat that.

That it's his *mind* and creativity which will be slowly destroyed - and he'll be aware of it happening for some of that time - is the cruelest thing you could force on a writer of his stature.

Why him? Why not Dubya (would anyone notice?) Why not a million people who've given so much less happiness, laughter and wisdom to?

There is no god. If there is a god, I don't want to worship one that does this kind of thing.

Re: Quite.

Definitely. I could probably add a few to that myself.

On a positive note, in the US at the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, they're currently testing several new drugs like Flurizan to see if it'll help slow, or even reverse, the course of the disease. There's Alzhemed too, which lowers the formation of beta amyloid and therefore slows down the progression of the disease.

If these drugs are effective and pass all testing, there's still hope. :)
