Survey Responses

The beauteous belly dancing [personal profile] beeej asked me the following questions:

1. What character from literature would you like to see Peter Wingfield portray?

Silk from The Belgariad series by David Eddings
Aramis from The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, preferably with Russell Crowe playing Athos, Liam Neeson as Porthos, Stephen Dorff as D'Artagnan, Angelina Jolie as Milady de Winter, Sigourney Weaver as The Queen, Salma Hayek as Constance Bonacieux and Alan Rickman as Cardinal Richelieu...not that I've thought about this much or anything..
Pwyll Prince of Dyved from the First Branch of The Mabinogion - old welsh stories. I dare anyone to read that story arc and not picture Peter in that role.
James Bond - the real one from the books by Ian Fleming not the film version. The James Bond of the book was a cold hearted killer as well as being a suave and sophisticated ladykiller, I can see PW doing this very well.
Odysseus from The Iliad. The thinking man's soldier :)

2. If you could transport yourself back into any time period, where would you go?

I probably wouldn't. Much as I enjoy reading about ancient times I doubt I would like the lack of amenities or the way that the majority of women were treated. I definitely wouldn't like the lack of medical facilities *grins*

If I had to pick though I'd say Renaissance Italy or Elizabethan England as first choice and Ancient Rome or Ancient Egypt as a second choice. That's got more to do with the people who were around/things that were happening at that time rather then a particular fascination with the time period.

If I can be a man then I'd say medieval england, I'd have loved to have a go at a being a knight. I so want to joust!

3. If Byron was immortal, and alive today, do you think he would be like the way he was portrayed in "The Modern Prometheus"?

A little perhaps! *grins* Byron was more intelligent and thoughtful then the Byron in 'The Modern Prometheus' but he definitely had a self destructive edge and he loved notoriety. I could see him as a rock star, he was the equivalent of a rock star in his time :)

4. Can you speak Gaelic?

I can speak Irish, as in modern irish gaelic. I can't speak scots gaelic although there are similarities between the two. My Da is Irish and comes originally from an area of Ireland where Gaelic is still spoken a lot. Most of my family on his side that are over in Ireland speak Irish as their first language. Technically I'm bi-lingual but I tend to find it hard to speak Irish when I'm not with my family...its got some rather odd associations for me.

5. What did you think of Johnny Depp's accent/performance in "From Hell"?

*looks at Beeej and raises an eyebrow*
Not great. Not eye gougingly bad but not great. I had thought it was going to be worse actually.

Its nowhere near as bad Keanu Reeves attempt at an english accent in Bram Stoker's Dracula. *That* was one of the worst screen accents of all time. Closely followed by the horror that is Angel's irish accent and Duncan MacLeod's scots accent.

The award for worst screen accent of all time however goes to Brad Pitt's irish accent in 'The Devil's Own'. It left me an The Ex (who is irish) speechless with horror..
...oddly he did a very good irish accent in Snatch, so good infact he could have *been* the Ex when he's pissed...but then he was playing a pikey, so..*shrugs*

Ta Da!

If anyone wants me to come up with a survey for them, please leave a comment and I'll be sure to conjour up something suitably probing and meaty *evil grin*

Ta cupla focal agam! *grins* There should be accent things over the u and first a but this keyboard at work is not set up to that easily and I can't be arsed :)

I hope I spelt that right. I should perhaps qualify this by saying I learnt irish verbally, I've never been taught it formally so while I can chat away happily once I've adjusted my head (as it were) my written irish is abysmal. I'm not too bad at reading although I have tendency to get massively confused when it comes to tenses.

Your in Dublin yes?

What do you think of Sean Bean's being cast as Odysseus in Troy?

Its nowhere near as bad Keanu Reeves attempt at an english accent in Bram Stoker's Dracula. *That* was one of the worst screen accents of all time.

Oh, I dunno. I am no Keanu fan, but I don't think anyone can be as bad at accents as Kevin Costner. His attempt at a Massachusetts accent in Thirteen Days gets my vote for all-time worst. He didn't even attempt an accent for Robin Hood, thank the gods.

Sean is probably the one actor who could be forgiven for using his natural accent no matter what role he was filming. Only thing is, I'm not quite sure what his natural voice really sounds like anymore. It doesn't always sound natural even when he's supposedly being himself.

Re:

[identity profile] ev-vy.livejournal.com 2004-02-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter what his accent really is. The one he has is so adorable! I could listen to him all the time. That's why I own Dragonheart. It has his voice. David Thewlis and Jason Isaacs are nice bonuses, aren't they?

What a lovely icon! I couldn't resist the promo pics and made a wallpaper, but my connection doesn't let me upload it to my site. Bugger.
ext_8947: Bronze age Kronos face with Evildrem written in corner (Default)

Jason Issacs is definitely a bonus..

You see

[identity profile] evildrem.livejournal.com 2004-02-06 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind that. Sean just uses his own accent all the time which given his acting ability is not a problem. I can suspend belief when he's pretending to be a Russian with a scottish accent. What I *hate* is when actors try and assume accents for roles and then fail dismally. I find that far more distracting, I'd much prefer they use their natural accent and let their acting make me suspend belief. :)

What do you think of Sean Bean's being cast as Odysseus in Troy?

I was very pleased indeed! I think he'll be excellent, infact I think the whole cast of Troy is pretty inspired, particularly Brad Pitt as Achilles and Orlando Bloom as Paris. The only csasting choice I would have preferred is Russell Crowe as Agamemnon.

I just think Peter would have been even more excellnt :) Me? biased? *cough*

You see I wouldn't recognise a Massachusetts accent if it painted itself blue and ran past me naked waving a sign saying 'I'm A Massachussetts Accent, Fly Me!' *shrugs* but I'll take your word for it. I suspect you find Keanu's accent bearable because its bad generic english in the same way I would just assume Costner's was generic american.*grins*

Still another reason to loathe Costner, He's up there with the Cruise-ter, Tom Hanks and DeCaprio as my most un-tolerated actors. This is mainly because of the said Robin Hood film. Never mention this film in my presence unless you want a 10 minute rant about how much it offends me....

..no seriously, just ask Chris or Katja, it was showing on TV when they were staying with me and we caught a bit of it..*grins*

So with you on the Costner/Cruise/Hanks/DiCaprio thing. Once upon a time - when I was very young, stupid, and didn't know any better, so don't hate me - I had a thing for Cruise, as well as Costner and the Robin Hood flick. But the more movies I saw, the more my tastes evolved and just plain grew up. These days I make it a habit to avoid any movies containing any of the above, unless the movie itself is one that I really want to see. For instance, I loved "Apollo 13" (I'm a big space geek) and "13 Days" because the stories were fascinating to me. And "Catch Me If You Can" was quite good as well. Cruise is the worst on the list, I have boycotted all his movies for at least 5 years or more. Man can't act his way out of a paper bag. I have *such* a love/hate thing with "Interview With The Vampire" due to his portrayal of my favorite literary character.

[identity profile] bigtitch.livejournal.com 2004-02-05 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
OOoh Silk - he was my absolute hero, as well as getting all the best lines. I'd never thought of PW in the role, but apart from being a little tall, I think he's practically perfect for it. I can just hear him, on being offered water to drink, say 'I'm thirsty, not dirty!'

*sigh*

[identity profile] evildrem.livejournal.com 2004-02-06 11:40 am (UTC)(link)

Yeah, Silk is a long time fave of mine, the "I lied, its a vice I have" line is one I have used on many, many occasions.

Re: *laughing*

[identity profile] bigtitch.livejournal.com 2004-02-06 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes and the 'I'm going through an honest phase. Make the most of it, it's already starting to bore me.'

I know I've mangled that a little, but you know what I mean.

You can definitely imagine Silk saying 'Why would I tell the truth?'
