Saw Troy last night with The Ex, The Lodger, Lady Tim and Caroline. Somewhat disappointed with the liberties they have taken with the story and absolutely appalled with the soundtrack and the dialogue. Egads! What were they thinking.
On the plus side however it was extremely of the *pretty* to watch. I was impressed with the attention to detail they had shown with some of the costumes and settings, particularly the horses tack, the armour design and the fight choreography
Top 5 Troy moments
1. Achilles and Hector fight
2. Achilles first fight at the start of the movie
3. Odysseus
4. Scene where Priam comes to get Hector's body
5. First battle scene outside Troy
Worst 5 Troy moments
1. Any scene with Paris and Helen in! - Orlando is very, very lovely to look at but dear gods he really can't act very well.
2. The soundtrack wailing
3. Achilles being introspective and philosophical - No No NO!
4. Patroclus/Achilles being ignored - writers get a clue!
5. The way at least two thirds of the story/characters were ignored and no nekkid anyone. *sighs*
I must admit that Odysseus' *authentic* Sheffield accent had everyone in fits of giggles at the start of the film but Sean Bean *rocked* as ever despite his role being so small. Eric Bana was surprisingly good as Hector although I felt he lacked the necessary intensity required. Brad Pitt did wonders with Achilles given the awful dialogue he had to contend with. Physically he was everything I imagined Achilles to be and projected the right level of flatheaded maniac and sheer physicality that you need for such a role. He was far too intellectual for Achilles however! *grins*
Priam, Agamemnon and Menelaus were excellent if a little hammy at times. Loved Ajax and loved the leader of Achilles Myrmidons. Massive slash potential there! Out of the women, sadly only Briseis and Thetis stood out for me. Helen was pretty but she couldn't act either.
Basically its a great film for ogling buff men in tiny leather skirts. Utterly thightastic!
This also a chance for me to debut my new icon by the very witty
lothlorienbaby which I have been dying to use for the last few days :)

the music was pretty dire and the movie had soo much potential,
I really felt the Helen/Paris thing was complete pants ;o( No chemistry whatsoever and Paris only really got going at the end with the Bow and Arrows though that was only looking pretty again Sigh.
Ho hum lol
hmm yeah lots and lots of buff men shots - just wish the damn bed was shorter and they paused longer on particular scenes.
did you hear about Brad's leather penis under that skirt??!?!? or was that a vicious rumour ??@?@@?!?!!

Re: Sean Bean's accent - I much prefer it when he does his normal Sheffield accent. In the whole of LOTR:FOTR the only accent I found unconvincing was his.
Let's face it - he's a bit of rough and needs to sound like one!

The movie was indeed deeply flawed, but very pretty.
You just know there are a lot of outtakes out there someplace with UPSKIRT!!!

Love your icon too..
..is that your Calvin? If it is he is adorable!
Yeah very pretty film, just annoyed it wasn't*more* if you know what I mean :)

You'll enjoy it...
..cos its very pretty and the attention to detail is impressive. It just annoys because with a little more thought it could have been outstanding!
Even my father (who is notoriously homophobic) thought it was ridiculous that they'd left out the relationship between Patroclus and Achilles. It upsets the balance of the story so much and makes Achilles' response to his death inexplicable.
I also wish they'd left in the interaction with the gods throughout which you have in the text. The whole Achilles being vulnerable only in his heel is not made clear which makes when he does die just bizarre..
Anyway, go see, the Hector/Achilles fight is just *gorgeous*. Fantastic choreography and very authentic!
