Pirates!
Ahoy thar maties! Bloody hell what a great film. I can completely see why so many people have been raving about it. I think I hurt myself I was laughing so much and Johnny Depp is just too spangly for words. The man suits eyeliner and beads and I also *want* his jacket.
Darth Rich and I went off on the inevitable Star Wars parody in the opening scenes:
"These cutlass marks are far too accurate for raiders. Only Pirates are so precise"
"That's not the moon that's a Pirate Ship"
"This fully operational Black Pearl"
"Help Me Jack Sparrow, your my only hope!" etc etc etc
Not to mention all the 'spoon' jokes during all the ship to ship fighting..::sighs:: Yes we were threatened with physical violence by some of our so called friends. We're so misunderstood! ::sniffs::
Anyway I have decided that I *want* to be a pirate now.
As for all the debate on Barbelith about 'Ninja's vs Pirates'..Pah! Pirates win hands down. They rock! The Lodger and C Elsewhere were obliged to go off and find large quantities of rum to drink last night in honour of the film. I was most miffed I couldn't join them. Stupid work ::grumbles::
Having grown up on a diet of sword and sandal epics and swashbucklers, (hence the cat being called Flynn) it was a real treat to watch this genre re-created with such joie de vivre. The fight sequences were beautifully choreographed and virtually in time to the music in some places. There were definite shades of 'The Crimson Pirate' in the fight scene at Jack's hanging which made me *Squeee* with delight.
No doubt next few weeks will be plagued by nautical sayings and much silliness. I refuse to let myself get pimped into another fandom however.
Must go and see this film again.....
