AFAIK it's set on earth, 700 years in the future. Connor is dead (they got that right, at least), and all the (good) immortals (which is apparently all but 2) decided to stop fighting (awww). Then the bad guy came along, and someone had to fight him. The 'chosen' one, is one Quentin MacLeod, who has a little sister, and Ramirez (who there is no way in hell is not a better swordsman than Quentin...unless it's some bizarro Ramirez), who carries his sword for him. One assumes that this is because he can't access katana-space, or something. Or maybe he's just a pansy. But yeah, he goes around, occasionally fighting the bad guy's 2nd in command, and absorbing knowledge from the other good immortals, 'cause apparently they've figured out how to do that *without* beheading each other. IIRC they also lose their immortality when they do this.
You'd never get me doing it. I'd take one look at the kid and say "Screw that. I'll take my chances." Then go obtain a sword and start training. :)
