Chris has finished Phoenix Fire! Go and read this story *NOW* if you have not already. You will thank me for it.

Seriously, this is easily one of *the* best Highlander fanfics that has been written *ever* and that includes all the previously written *classics*. Chris' writing is a positive orgasm of joy to read. Her characterisation is so perfect it makes me weep and she writes tightly plotted proper stories. What more could you want!...

...Oh yeah, the sex is damn hot as well..

What I admire most of all however is her ability to create a whole new universe of characters and situations which are so *real* I could see, hear and picture them perfectly. There are OC's a plenty in this fic, all of which you care about and none of which step outside the bounds of proportion.

I am now hopelessly in love with Margot Dubosc, Dominique De Carteret and Jean-Michel Bouvin. I want to know more about them, infact I even want to write stories about them! *cringe* Plus in a new, first of it's kind scenario for me (and that doesn't happen often!) I think I may have developed a crush on a building!

The House of the Lanterns is possibly my dream house given life in words. Now I just have to work out how to *find* it.

Oh and of course there is her Methos. I say her's but Chris' Methos is so *real*, I suspect he actually lives at her house and spends all day whispering in her ear. He's certainly the closest thing I have come across in fanfiction to the Methos who lives in my head (just not quite as nasty or with quite so many kinks) and I *love* her for it. Chris, darling, *thank you* from the bottom of twisted and evil little heart for this story and for all your stories and most of all for allowing me to share a little in your vision.

May we have many long and rambling conversations in the future about Highlander and Methos and writing. Perhaps this time without us both getting possessed by Cassandra and her Krow-nose! *grins*

While I'm reccing, Chris has also written a gorgeous bit of smut called Breaking Point which features the most adorable and hot Jealous!Methos.

Please do tell Chris how marvelous she is and then hopefully she will write more! I believe a sequel to Phoenix Fire is planned and I shall be sacrificing many chickens in thanksgiving!

and for herding us all in that particular direction! Oh yes I consistently let Chris know how thoroughly she had me ensnared in this world. I'm overjoyed to hear that there may be more written in this universe! Especially about the house! You're definitely not alone in loving the place and wishing I could spend a weekend or two there myself soaking up the atmosphere and getting to know the neighbors.

If sacrificing chickens helps I'd be willing to cook them into a wonderful homestyle pot pie so we can all sit down to a hearty Normandy style meal and enjoy another story!! ;)

Chris' facility with believable dialogue and skill creating real characters is marvelous, isn't it? I so admire her this story. I do not have to suspend disbelief to accept that Duncan would settle into the Norman village and this family, and make these friendships. And the House of The Lanterns is wonderful -- I can almost smell the fresh wax and new floor of the dojo, can't you? I've been bugging Chris since, oh, the tenth chapter to _hurry up dammit!_ and resolve the looming problems. I would have preferred a little longer tidying up of the loose cannons (g), but at least all the characters I wanted to stay alive stayed that way, and all the ones I wanted to die, did. Margot Dubosc is a wizard with a rolling pin.

I hope that Chris develops the ideas of the datorigni and voragigni in further stories (and that I spelled them correctly) -- I've always had a suspicion that at least some immortals could cultivate their chi this way, and the symmetry of the two types is intriguing. And what, pray tell, is Methos, then? I agree with you that Chris' Methos is a much more complex and subtly nuanced fellow than most characterizations of him in stories. Probably a benefit of a mature author, who has a more complex and subtle nuanced character herself! (well, she's older than I am, and a better writer, too!)

It might be early days yet for other people to write about Surtainville and play with her characters, but you might ask her to co-author a story, or beta for you, even if you don't archive it yet.

Stilll its good to see that all the honking has paid off. That's one in the eye for all the whingers who were moaning about there being no new good fic being written!
