Carmel just asked this question of the hldu list and I has to post a reply. I had such fun writing it that I thought I would post it here as well.
"[Carmel]Anyway, I started thinking that it would be interesting to ask how on earth we all *got into* Highlander???"
What aside from my deep abiding love of sharp and pointy things?
"I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal"
That line is what got me into Highlander! Seriously!
For a while back in my dim and distant past that line was so oft quoted it developed into a whole joke all my itself (I am round and small and spherical, I am a marble etc etc etc)How could you not adore a hero who ran around fighting with a sword and came up with lines like "Nice to see you Kurgan. Who cuts your hair?"
The film assumed a kind of cult status amongst I and my friends and I think I can still quote the scene in the police station line by line. After all who wouldn't remember:
GARFIELD "Are you a faggot Nash?
NASH Why Garfield? Cruisin' for a piece of ass?
GARFIELD I'll tell you what happened Russell, you went down the garage looking for a hand job and just didn't want to pay for it.
NASH Your sick!"
Not to mention the fact that MacLeod and Kastagir were *so* doing it and the best scottish accent in the film was from the man playing an Egyptian! The film just *rocked!*
Then the sequels of which we do not speak (II and III happened and I kinda put Highlander to the back of my brain. Various people mentioned the TV series to me on a several occasions but I just pulled a face and ignored them. The idea of a series which didn't have Connor in it, just seemed like another slap in the face to a great idea following two bloody awful sequels.
Roll forwards now to around 1999 which was when I first really became involved with fandom on the internet. Being a slash fan I'd been aware of the Highlander fandom based on the TV series and the film for a while but had taken very little notice as I was currently up to my neck in Robin of Sherwood, LA Confidential, Gladiator, Star Wars The Phantom Menace and X-men fandoms.
A very dear friend of mine Ben however, was, is and always will be the biggest Highlander fan *ever*. He also is possibly Adrian Paul's biggest fan of the male persuasion as well and he's always been someone who has encouraged my writing and fandom endeavors. I love Ben, he *rocks* with mighty fists of steel and is also the Vice President of S.Q.U.E.E!
Anyway, he *kept* trying to persuade me to watch Highlander the TV series (which he has on video from when they were shown on TV in the UK) luring me along with claims that it was "the slashiest TV series ever"
Finally towards the end of 2002 I gave in. The first fateful episode was (as many of you know) 'Chivalry' and from the moment I heard the words "Candygram" I was lost...
Ben tried very hard to persuade me to pay attention to Duncan but I was hopeless Methos slut from the word go. I pestered and pestered Ben until he showed me more Methos episodes and then on one very drunken evening he, I and The Lodger watched Highlander:Endgame:
"Don't you want to be inside me?"
I rest my case.
Of course with the Methos lust strong upon me I launched myself cheerfully into the internet fandom and was over whelmed by all the wonderful fic and the very amusing people I met. In a moment of weakness *looks at
lastrega* I was persuaded to attend HLDU5 in Brisbane and you could say its been one long slow slide into the gutter from then on! *grins*
Now one year and a few months later I'm the RC of the UK contingent of the PWFC, I have spent the equivalent of a small country's national debt on fandom related stuff, the Lodger and the Ex both complain bitterly that they both know more about Highlander and Peter Wingfield then any sane, heterosexual man should and I'm traveling to LA in Feb and Orlando in May this year for HL related conventions.
I've also made some of the *best* friends that anyone could hope for!
So how about you?...

Re: Yay more porn introducees!
The breasts are a little smaller these days, as I've lost 8kg, but I'm still very curvy ;)
