Following my rec of the juicy [profile] jamwired's Softly Away. The beauteous belly dancing [personal profile] beeej asked for the other fics that made up my top 5. So without further ado:

Top 5 HL Fics That Make Me Cry/Hurt/Go Eeek!

1. One Thousand by [personal profile] amand_r:- The first time I read this fic it made me dry retch. That's how powerful it is. Even on a re-read it retains the power to shock and has the compelling qualities of a multiple car wreck. True. Macabre. Genius.

2. Softly Away:- Agonising and beautiful.

3. The Book of Lost Days By Taselby:- This fic will gouge your heart out with a blunt spoon. You can taste the almost happiness! Argh!

4. Glass Bells by [profile] tritorella:- I hate children. This fic made me weep buckets. I still haven't entirely forgiven the author. *wry grin*

5 Something Borrowed, Something Blue by Gillian Leeds:- This made me cry and go Eeek!. I think its the one fic that has had the most profound effect on how I *see* Methos.

I chose the above fics because they are one shots which are complete in themselves. I have read other fics, which I have had strong reactions to but they tend to be part of a series, which needs to be read in it's entirety to get the full effect. I'm thinking here in particular of Kite by my darling [personal profile] lastrega or And In The Morning by the horrifically talented [personal profile] hafital or ye-gods-the-pain Storm Front by the magnificent [personal profile] maygra which is the end chapter of her truly 'classic' Shield Brothers Arc. There are many more of course and no doubt in a few hours I'm going to want to add to this as I remember them but it will do for now.

So, what's your Top 5?

I completely agree with you about "One Thousand" and "The Book of Lost Days."

Taselby's Conjugal Visits makes me cry every time I read it. Sylvia Volk's Millennium, Kat Allison's The Parting Glass and Barb G's Disappointment all hit me hard.

On a quasi-related note: I'm disappointed that Connor's death in Endgame wasn't more affecting. If it had been a scene in a well-written fan fiction by a writer like MacNair, I'd probably cry my heart out. As it was, the strongest emotion evoked by that movie was irritation.
