Ok, just cos my beauteous belly dancing beeej asked:

My Top 5 Films

1. Bladerunner
2. LA Confidential
3. The Star Wars Trilogy (original versions)
4. Grosse Pointe Blanc
5. Fight Club/The LOTR Trilogy

I'm cheating a bit on the last one as I've not settled yet on whether the LOTR films are gonna be in the Top 5 or not. I need longer to assess their impact on me!

You see, when I say, my Top 5 films, I mean the films I can watch over and over, have committed large chunks of dialogue to mind and generally adore. Believe me, you don't wanna *know* the Top 10! *grins*

Oh and before you ask, sadly Highlander got edged out by Fight Club.

Oooh and while I'm talking about films I watched sex, lies and videotape last night with The Ex. I haven't seen that film since I was about 18/19 and wow! I mean seriously, Wow! James Spader *rocks* and what a very clever, well thought out, intelligently handled *adult* film. I thought it was good when I saw it before but I don't think I appreciated just how clever it is until I saw it this time. Certainly if anyone is interested in seeing beautifully executed d/s and powerplay elements in relationships then watch this film. It really sharply punctures the smug married syndrome and highlights all those ghastly common place lies we make to ourselves. Outstanding stuff!

The scene where the cheating husband watches his soon to be ex-wife transform into this in control goddess is just..Guh! Oh
and James Spader is too yummy for words. I want.

A friend loaned me Fight Club months ago. Without my asking for it, mind you, he's just insisting that I must watch it. Only thing is, I've never had the slightest desire to watch a movie about guys beating each other to a bloody pulp. So tell me why it's great and why I should go get it from the cabinet and blow the dust off it?

Because it's so not really a film about guys beating each other up. Its a deeply black comedy commentary on modern society and in particular the male role in it. Its also got some of the most kick ass dialogue ever and Ed Norton and Brad Pitt surpass themselves.

Oh and if you really don't know anything about the story then the sting in the tail will knock you for six. I saw this film at the cinema and for the next 2 days I wandered round in a daze. I can almost guarantee you will love it, yes, its violent in places but no more so then many other films and more importantly in this case the film is trying to say something. Its also very very funny in a twisted and dark fashion.

Brad Pitt looks fucking gorgeous as well ;)

Ok, well, that's the best case I've heard presented yet. :-) Alrighty then, I'll pop it in this weekend. I do love Brad (so much more than just a pretty face), and Ed Norton always knocks my socks off. (Primal Fear, anyone?) And I do love an ending that punches me in the gut. (Again...Primal Fear...)

Ed Norton is one of my sacred group of adored actors. You kow the ones who always make films worth watching. I adored Primal Fear and he's also utterly wonderful in Fight Club. Fantastic acting. Have you seen American History X? He's class in that too..

Brad actually acts his pants off in Fight Club. Normally he's a little on the pretty side for my tastes but he's all fucked up and ripped in this like in Snatch and just Guh! Plus Helena Bonham Carter plays totally against type and is just sex on stick...

You will recognise where my 'I am Em's complete lack of surprise' and the like, type comments come from as well :)

Oh and the ending will do more then punch you in the gut ;)

Just commented on your choices. Like 'em lots! If your a movie slut I dread to think what that makes me :)

These are great choices--Star Wars trilogy and LOTR are also in my top five. But I do cringe to admit that my ALL TIME favorite movie is...Dirty Dancing.

I oved the book Smilla's Sense of Snow ..what's the film like?

-Lots of people don't like it, but I think it's great. Julia Ormond has Smilla *down*... They fiddle with the book a little- Robert Loggia (Smilla's father) is now American, and Gabriel Byrne's Mechanic isn't as morally nebulous as is the book, but I still love it. Great opening scene, too.
