Well I still have no secretary and I am now sharing an office with one of my colleagues. One week of professional cohabitation and he is already referring to me as 'Satan'.
Still he's quite sweet and he has a mini basketball hoop and ball on his desk which he lets me play with so I think I shall keep him.
What else, ooh loads of stuff but I keep forgetting to post so a quick resume of my last few weekends:
July 17/18
On the Saturday I went to see the RSC's production of Othello at the Trafalgar Studios in London with Mad Vicki and The Ex. It was the closing night and our seats were literally *on* the front of the stage. Anthony Sher played Iago and was stupendous, as was Sello Maake ka-Ncube as Othello. The other stand out role for me was the actress who played Emilia. She broke my heart. I cried like a baby at the end. *sighs*
The Ex was suitably beaten by both I and Vicki for only mentioning *after* the event that Patrick Stewart has been standing behind me in the bar at the interval. Gah!
After the theatre we went back to my Rae of Sunshine's flat for the night. It would appear she she has taken over my role of blagging herself back stage at music events and snogging popstars. I have trained her well! *grins*
July 24/25
On the Saturday the ever sparkly
tritorella and her husband came and visited me at Chez Evil. It was truly lovely to see them both and they very kindly also brought scrummy food to feed me with as they are aware of my complete inability in the kitchen.
After the food there was much gossip. I am also now the proud owner of copious amounts of anime which I am slowly working my way through. One particular hentai anime even had me mildly squicked. It is hilarious though and I intend to inflict it on everyone I know . Yay! Tentacle porn and unfeasibly large penis'!
Last weekend
The Ex, The Lodger, Ben and moi went and saw Shane McGowan & The Popes at the Eastleigh Festival on the Friday. It was hilarious and oodles of fun. Shane was on top form and actually quite together. I danced, I jumped about and I sang myself hoarse. The Dungeon was a complete let down afterwards however. *sighs*
So that is the weekends. I am off to see King Arthur tonight *SQUEEEEEEEE* so shall no doubt be suffering from estrogen poisoning tomorrow.
I have been watching a lot of films lately. I've just joined LoveFiLM so have been ordering dvd's up like crazy. Darth Rich has also been obtaining many shady copies of stuff. A quick review follows:
Blood: The Last Vampire : Beautiful anime and interesting story. Way too short though and I do hope they follow it up.
Ghost In The Shell: Finally got to see this and thought it extremely of the pretty to look at. You can see why it influenced so much of the anime that came after it and also where the Matrix got many of it's ideas. Sadly it did have a tendency to be a tad pretentious in places and I was left with tooo much of a 'Yes-I-Watched-Bladerunner-As-Well' feel afterwards to rave about it.
HellBoy: *Squeee* A wonderful comic and Ron Perlman just is his character to a tee. Great fun, can't wait until it *finally* comes out over here in the UK.
Chronicles of Riddick: *SQUEEEEEEE* Vin Diesel, *SQUEEEEEE* Judi Dench, *SQUEEE* Karl Urban. I *loved* this film and I cannot wait to see it on a big screen. It was so Conan The Barbarian in space (but without the annoying sexism) and just gorgeous to look at! I love big dumb sci-fi films. Oh and Riddick and Vaako want each other baaad
lastrega these two *have* to be slashed!
Adaptation: Bizarre! Very clever and in places extremely funny. Nicholas Cage actually made me like him and gives a fabulous performance. It says a lot about the nature of writing and I could identify with the procrastination so well. Slightly weak ending.
Calendar Girls: Julie Walters I adore you. Lovely, funny, quintessentially english film. My mother is a member of the W.I. in Brockenhurst. I refer to it as the Coven :)
Read Or Die: A very odd anime about super powered librarians who save the world. I liked it but it had us all sitting there going 'Wuh' at the end. Definitely too short. I was very impressed with the exceptional cleavage of Ms.Deep!
Secretary: Oh wow! Seriously I cannot say enough good things about this film. I had been meaning to watch it for ages and various people I know had given it glowing reviews. It surpassed my expectations completely.
This is the best depiction of a a BDSM relationship I have seen on film. It clearly showed the dynamics of the D/s relationship and in particular the peculiar freedom the submissive is given by handing over control. James Spader was awesome as the Dom and demonstrated the terrible fear that Dom's experience when they take on this role and yet are unsure of how much they can trust their sub, as well as their own fears about their desires.
I now completely in luurve with Maggie Gyllenhaal who was too adorable for words as the submissive secretary. She epitomized all the strength and power I associate with subs and also the incredible vulnerability.
My favourite moment was at the end when you had the various different people trying to persuade her not to to carry on with her desired course of action. The woman putting all the feminist books in front of her and saying 'let me tell you about the feminist struggle' was a particularly appreciated touch! That and the challenging look to camera she gives at the end. *sighs*
I adored this film and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone who wants to try get their heads round BDSM or dip their toes in the water. It's funny, touching, beautifully acted and oddly one of the most genuinely romantic films I have ever seen.
I glowed for about 2 hours after watching it :)
Anyways must dash, Kiera calls...
[edited to add]
Spiderman II: Oh the slash betwixt Spidey and his best friend is virtually canon. Lovely, sharp, slick film with some genuinely hilarious and moving moments although the last 5 minutes I hated with a passion.
The web slinging just gets better and better although
nmg may have ruined Spiderman for me by his comments about it being such a metaphor for puberty. Particularly the 'thwip' 'thwip' noises in the comic = masturbation. Ewwwwwwwwww! Particularly adored the scene in the lift. The only other downside was Mary Jane, in her entirety, she is right up there near the top of my list of heroines I wish to kill.
Harry Potter III: Sorry. could not be bothered to type entire title. Loved it. Loved Sirius and Remus so much it can barely fit on this entry. So slashy and so tragic. *sniff* Was perturbed by amount left out of this screenplay but thought the film overall worked and much preferred the darker tone. Baffled by complete re-location of Hogwarts however and kept expecting Duncan to ride up or Connor to appear shouting "Heather".
I thought the CGI in this instalment was really, really top notch and the kids acted better then expected. My, Draco has grown hasn't he? Quite yummy in a still-young-enough-to-get-me-into-serious-trouble way! The film was absolutely set on fire every time you got Sirius, Severus and Remus on screen. I only wish we'd has more of them and less of the kids but I suppose that would be kinda missing the point. Lubbed Emma Thompson as well. She *rocks*.
Still he's quite sweet and he has a mini basketball hoop and ball on his desk which he lets me play with so I think I shall keep him.

Well I aim to please and I'm glad my reviews are of some use. I really did enjoy Secretary, am a big fan of James Spader's stuff and this is one of his best.
Do let me know what you think of it as I'd love to have other opinions :)
