Traveling to London today? If you are, or you are already there take note: An explosion was heard at Liverpool St tube station this morning

Apparently there is no train or tube services in London at the moment and I've just heard from [livejournal.com profile] gnommi that now buses have started exploding. At present all the talk is of a power surge/outrage but this seems increasingly unlikely.

More news as I get it.

Edit Explosions have occurred at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations. Three buses have exploded. Apparently South Kensington and another tube station have just had explosions as well. Many injuries, some quite severe by all accounts.

Its not a power surge! Fucking, fucking hell! Not again

Edit The Second Mobile masts are also down in London so if you need to contact loved ones. Land line or email is your best option.

This is prooving to be a very intersting few days (in the "may you live in interesting times" sort of way).

Ive been having riot police on pretty much every corner in my city for some days now, told to go home early by my job. Around half of the downtown shops are boarded up etc.

And now things start exploding in London.. probably not coincidence that that happens when we've borrowed around 6000 policemen from England and Wales, so you're abit short down there.

I think..

..its a bit too much of a coincidence that this is happening the day of the G8 talks.

Re: I think..

Im pretty certain that these were bombs. Ive been able for the past few days to know what's going on through first hand eyewitness (a friend of mine practicing his news photography) and then read what the media reports. They've so far downplayed things alot for the first few hours, being more correct around a day later.

Like last monday the first reports were that 200 protestors were on a march and having minor scuffles with the police. When in reality there were close to a thousand people marching (most of them peceful though). But the anarchists actually charged the police, wich charged back so it was like a scene from Braveheart, two charging groups colliding. (My friend was right in the middle, going Ooo nice pictures, taking pics of line of riot police, turning 180 degrees taking a pick of the anarchists, when the anarchists started counting down: 10,9,8.. and my friend went I wonder what they're counting down for, then suddenly figured and ran out FAST and managed to be out of there by the time the groups collided) Some of the rioters had prepared wooden sticks as weapons and lifted up heavy park benches to use as battering rams on the lines of police etc.

Anyway my original point was that the media seems to downplay things quite abit. Actual footage tends to not lie though

The news here said they were querying a crash. Seems like something they would know one way or the other, so I'm not sure where the uncertainty comes from in the reports. Unless they're pulling it out of their collective asses.

No crash..

..as far as I'm aware from friends in London. Just lots of explosions. Several buses now as well as several tube stations.

No tube or rail services at all. I suspect terrorist action of some kind.

Been watching the news, its still very confused over there and no-one was willing to say if it was deliberate or a technical problem. Let's hope the latter and that people are ok.

So far just injuries..

..so fingers crossed that no one is killed. I think its safe to guess it's some kind of deliberate action. I'm just wondering how people are gonna get home tonight!

Re: So far just injuries..

At this point it's not looking like it could be anything but terrorist action. Has anyone claimed responsibility yet?

Re: Rumours..

The Israeli Prime Minister was supposed to be at talks in London today. He had to cancel suddenly. Palestinian terrs, perhaps?

Re: Rumours..

God, I hope not. He'd probably be cautious regardless of affilition once the police put out the word that they suspected something were under way.
