Isn't the present IRA a splinter group from the original group? What about the real IRA?
My feeling is that they know they look like big girls blouses next to the kind of scary buggers who aren't afraid to kill themselves along with dozens of other harmless commuters, and right now, the kind of stunt the IRA used to pull almost looks innocent.
Not to mention the Americans have finally woken up to the fact that someone being Irish != someone being oppressed and cuddly, and a terrorists with a fecking bomb is a terrorist and that's it. took them long enough, but hey, now London Hurts too, so they have to be nice to us.
Oh, there's the Continuity IRA, the Real IRA, the Provisional IRA, and probably more. The Provos, however, are the only ones who really count, the only ones with worldwide networking and easy access to arms, and the only ones who are simpatico with Sinn Féin. It's the Provos who've made this statement, and if they're sincere, it's an unprecedented, wonderful thing.
Even if Adams and his bunch of charmers genuinely mean what they say, do they really have control over all those thugs happily knee-capping members of their own community who they feel don't toe the line?
