Look, man, I just got snarky on ROG and I fully expect to be ejected for it. But I made that decision because what I had to say was more necessary than my membership on ROG-L. Not belittling the lsit, but won't someone stand up and take a stand instead of making sarcastic comments and roundabout mocking?
I have been meek for years, and you know what it got me? RUN OVER. I'm tired of this bitch, because what she does is passive trolling. And just because it's passive doesn't mean that it's not trolling. I have mailed her off list politely and she has never responded, and I'm not the only one. So the list is the only place to talk to her.
Should people be ejected because of the rule breakage? Yes. But in reality, there's no rule that covers her, either. No one bothered to write a passive trolling rule because no one bothered to think that there'd be need for one.
Should we go easy on Jeylan? Probably. Have I? Oh hell yes, I have. I have edited comments to death. Should I be tossed if I violate those rules? Yeah. But what about her? When is a mod going to step in and tell her that a list is agitated and she needs to shut the hell up? Not lately.
I'm amused by her presence, and I like mocking her on LJ and I like responding to her. She isn't a victim. I don't even think she's mentally ill, because I don't make that distinction until I see proof. I think she's an overopinionated self styled intellectual who thinks that she's right, and that she's pulled a Jesus and come J-Blo. That's not mental illness. That's desparate hubris.
When is a mod going to step in and tell her that a list is agitated and she needs to shut the hell up?
That would be a far more honest way of dealing with her. The list mods should throw her off their lists for the sake of the rest of their members and stand by their decision. But trying to be cute off list and authorative on it just makes you look two-faced.
If you flame, and you know you're broken the rules, and you stand by that decision, then at least that's honest. But to be fair, the mods should then toss you. I bet they won't. It comes down to who's their chum and who's not, and that just sucks.
Aaargh, this drives me mad! Why don't people just accept this cow is going to stomp off in short order, and prevent the damage she and the people she's inciting to attack are causing? All that's happening is the agony is being prolonged.
On the other hand, I made some snide comments, but I wonder if I'll get tossed. Not beause of the MODS, BUT BECAUSE i'M A BAD JUDGE OF WHAT IS FLAMEY. Really. I thought I'd get tossed long ago.
To be honest, I'm actually trying to argue with her points in an intellectual way. I think she's wrong, and I don't mind telling her that. I haven't really attacked her person onlist.
Aaargh, this drives me mad! Why don't people just accept this cow is going to stomp off in short order, and prevent the damage she and the people she's inciting to attack are causing? All that's happening is the agony is being prolonged.
The problem is that she ie not going to stomp off. And banning her outright wasn't really enough to deal with her. That's the problem. She doesn't really do enough to be banned for flaming, and sooner or later she will reappear in another place. I've seen her on four lists, and on every list she managed to annoy people.
I can only speak for myself. I feel personally offended that she assumes she's the only person with the right opinion. I personally disagree with her, and I don't care if other agree with her or with me. I've read polite, well-reasoned replies to her posts, as well as those bordering on flames or being outright personal attacks. The latter made me really uncomfortable, but I admit that I don't like her and I think she's arrogant and annoying. And I have every right to express my opinion. But I'm trying very hard to be polite and deal with her opinions not with her, which I reserve for my LJ where I can do whatever I please.
By the way, I'm not trying to bash you. I can see where you're coming from. Rules are rules and breaking them should result in being tossed no matter who you are. Sorry, Em, but I've witnessed enough flame wars. Then again, she surely made the fandom interesting.
As one of those lurkers people keep referring to in this matter,...;-)
I'll have to say I understand all sides of this argument, even J's. Not that I agree with her in any way.
I too think she's annoying.
I don't agree with her opinions, the way she expresses them, or the way she keeps ignoring all rational arguments and relevant evidence against her purported opinion. Again and again.
But... Tritorella makes a point; She's no worse than many others, just more persistent. Understandable and enjoyable as Em's outburst was, Sonja was perfectly justified with her slight slapdown.
I also agree with Tritorella on the point that it's not going to do you ( any of you ) any good to attack her on a personal level. There are many people on these lists who aren't on any of the others,so the references to her past posts on different lists aren't going to make any sense. They only come through as unnecessary, uncalled-for sarcasm.
The way to handle this,IMHO, is to ignore her to death. I've noticed that it's mostly well known names that enter in long arguments with her. The random posters don't bother beyond a couple of replies. So.... DON'T REPLY!
This Tic-Tac-Toe thing on ROG-L is a good example. There is in fact a guaranteed way to win in tic-tac-toe, if you're the one starting, no cheating involved, but that minor fact is not going to make any difference to this conversation. She didn't start this thread to discuss that (totally faulty) Barnes & Nobles book she started to talk about. She wants to talk about Methos cheating. No news there. The utterly unnecessary appeal to a questionable authority is just typical of her.
I admired the nonsense replies, but I thought she'd nevertheless reply. And she did.
She responded quite seriously.
Ignore her!
Hopefully she'll go away.
Stasha,
Who,as a rule tries to avoid posting when drunk, 'cause she has no internal censorship when soused.
The problem that I have't learned is that I'f LIKE to have a disussion like this with someone, but she's the only one offering anything like it. For now.
I'm done replying to her, and am moing it to my LJ instead.
You could always try making less sense. Or if that doesn't work either, end every other post by indirectly insulting most of the list members. I bet that'd get you replied to.
This is going to be my new response to everything that I think sucks. Beware the fatal signal of "I like gum". It's like hearing the gong and knowing that your act sucked.

Hey I'm a miserable old cow. Flame wars are not fun and I did not expect anyone to condone or applaud my behaviour :)
It is good to know that she gets that far up other people's noses as well.

The fancy wording doesn't really hide that.
For an interesting debate you need to start an interesting conversation.( and ignore the troll when she shows up)

Hey Stasha!
Sonia was entirely justified in her smack down. No arguments there :)
Infact I knew it would happen and was braced for far worse consequences.
You are right that ignoring the woman is the sensible option. I am afraid I have a very bad temper at times however. My bad.
I don't regret anything I said though :)
And your ight about not drinking and posting. Definitely not the best idea in the world but it does lead to some interesting discussions :)
