I hate this time of year

I really do. I fucking hate all the seasonal good cheer hypocrisy, stupid decorations and false bonhomie. It's one of the reasons I always try and be away over the Xmas period.

The black dog really sinks his teeth in at this time of year. Part and parcel of this is that I am feeling burned out with fandom. This is not to say I am not still filled with *squeee* for my fandoms. On the contrary I've just been eaten whole by CSI fandom so am very happily immersing myself in that reality. I guess I'm just utterly fed up with the pathetic behaviour of certain elements of fandom. So I'm taking time out. Otherwise I shall end up hating everyone and everything fandom related and then do something I regret.

Obviously, I shall still be interacting with certain people. You should know who you are! I just want to withdraw from the general stage, as it were, before I end up losing what's left of my equanimity and telling an awful lot of people to suck my clit.

Roll on the solstice! I could do with a little more light in my life.

Yup, I agree with what you said. I work in an ER -- we see too often the results of this "most wonderful time of the year." Short version: For many, it ain't.

And the fandom thing, yo. Grrr, argh. As my momma says, I'm mad enough to chew up nails and spit out paper clips.

I swing back and forth, really. I like to do some of the stuff (like, bake! Mmmmm, cookies) but -- okay, *here's* something I don't like -- today is the Office Holiday Party. Gag. The good news is I hang out with an equally anti-social buddy there, and we leave early. As in before the speeches. At least its during office hours...

Oh, I know all about the stepping away from the fandom. It just *does* something to one every once in a while that just makes a person go "Whoa. That shit ain't right."

Hugs and sympathy. I know what you mean about Christmas. I usually get so worn out that I get sick. My son says he doesn't remember any Christmas ever that I was well.

I guess the most spectacular illness was the Christmas that a brown recluse spider climbed into my bed under the covers on Christmas Eve and bit me. Very weird. Brown recluses have poison 20x more lethal than a rattle snake. It is a very good thing that they are small. I was ill for six weeks after that experience. Ho HO Ho. Yah.

My best wishes to you, sweetie. If you left HL fandom, I'd miss you.
