Well, far better than if you neglected him and didn't do it... He'll give your dirty looks today, but he'll come back 'round. Especially if you have some yummy but mushy stuff to offer, like chicken baby food...
I've dealt with a couple of cats that had to have some teeth removed, and they do just fine with few to no teeth.
Your kitty will be fine. Just be sure to keep a close eye on him when he comes home, because he'll probably be groggy for a few hours and may act strange because of it.
My Tamlin had to remove quite a few teeth a couple of weeks back... I was fretting for days, but thankfully they heal up pretty fast. He was eating again the same day and now he's crunching kibbles with the best of them again. :) And it's better to remove a few teeth than deal with numerous infections and stuff. I'm sure your Flynn will be quite alright again very soon. Lots of get well soon wishes from Tamlin, Taran and Tula, my three little monsters. :)
I have never understood why this happens to some kitties, and not to others - considering all house cats eat pretty much the same diet...
My Oliver had to have one tooth pulled, and afterwards I had to give him an oral antibiotic for seven days, which he kept spitting out. I had to get very sneaky and hide it in liver pate. That pill bothered him more than the actual operation.
No need to get the guilt on for this. It happens. Gabriel (See Gay Kitty of Jiggly Doom and Glory) has had a couple of teeth pulled, mainly due to the fact that he likes gnawing on things he shouldn't (i.e stainless steel bar) and broke them off to the point where they infected, but that's besides the point.
Flynn will be fine in a few days, just make sure to keep an eye on him, the anasthetic can do some weird things to a cat's mentality before it's completely faded. Gushy food and lots of love. He'll be fine ;) *hugs for the distressed cat mummy*
Hugs for you and strokes for Flynn, I hope he's feeling a lot better by now. I hwve fond memories of that young cat - he and I had some interesting conversations :-)
Don't feel guilty - you've done all you should and could *and* you got him the necessary treatment. Just feed him his favourites and he'll soon forgive you.
No need to feel guilty...he'll feel much better afterwards...believe me, I'm a vet and I have had to extract almost all teeth from a couple of cats...and all these felt immensely better as soon as the teeth were out and the cats were awake...most of those had trouble eating before and after the extractions they just devoured food...makes you wonder how bad the pain must have been BEFORE extractions... Best wishes for your kitty and may he get well soon!!
